Gassville has got to be the speed trap capital for the state of arkansas. It is amazing that such a small town can have 2 speed traps going simultaneously at any given time. It would be nice to see more patrolling through all the little neighborhoods scattered throughout the town last year and one of the first things we did within a few months of living at our new home was set up a fire pit in the middle of our back yard. Within 15mins of lighting the fire we had an officer at our house telling us that we can't burn after hours. He never knocked on the door but instead walked around our house in the dark shining a flashlight in our face as he began talking to us. He then went on to say that he didn't have any complaints and that he would act like he didn't see anything(implying that we we breaking an ordinance or something). After that odd experience i grabbed my phone and google gassville city ordinances and since there was only 8 or so it wasn't hard to find the 2 page ordinance that dealt with outdoor fires. After reading completely through it it was completely obvious that he either didn't know his own city's ordinance or he was trying to find excuses as try why he creeped around our house in the dark without knocking on the door. The ordinance stated clearly that you could have a fire at night as long as it's for recreational purposes and not brush burning. Either way it wasn't a good first impression of the department here. I hope that they will educate themselves on the laws pertaining to their jurisdiction and try not to "frighten" the locals from doing what was completely in their power.
